Lake Powhatan Campground

Sunset on the Blueridge Parkway

We spent a little over a week at Lake Powhatan Campground right outside of Asheville and really enjoyed our time.  However, we didn’t expect to have ZERO cell phone/internet service at the site!  Other than that, the campground was exceptional.  The sites had plenty of privacy and we were able to mountain bike right from our site!

After our super stressful week with engine trouble, we were so relieved to be back living in the campground.  We arrived right at sunset and got settled in.  The next day we went on a mountain bike ride from our site and then drove to downtown Asheville to meet up with some friends that happened to be visiting Asheville.  We met our friends at one of the many awesome breweries trendy Asheville has to offer.  The following day we had some other friends meet us at the campground and camp with us for a night.  We had a blast with our first overnight campground guests!  The fun-filled day consisted of football watching, firing up the smoker and enjoying the gorgeous fall day.  We also checked out several restaurants and breweries in downtown Asheville with them. It was so nice that the campground was in such a great location to easily get downtown!

Archetype Brewery – not right downtown, but we got stopped for some wifi and beers

The campground was also right off the Blueridge Parkway – perfect for our sunset Jeep drive!  Austin and I are loving having the Jeep and sunset rides are quickly becoming one of our favorite activities.

As I mentioned before, there was no cell or internet service at the campground so that did leave us in a bit of a predicament as far as work was concerned.  Luckily, there is an Ingle’s right down the road from the campground where our Sprint and Verizon hotspots got great signal!  A bonus is the cafeteria like section of Ingle’s with plenty of space to set up shop comfortably and get our work done and have all the snacks you could ever want.  It was nice to have a change of scenery during the day as well.

Our “office” for the week

Lake Powhatan was a great campground with super clean facilities.  We took advantage of being close to downtown and hit up several breweries including our favorite – Burial.  Asheville is a great city to spend some time in – there is so much to see and do. Even if you simply sit on a bench and people watch, the eclectic Asheville will not disappoint!

Burial – our favorite Asheville brewery

We had a blast our first several days in Asheville and took advantage of the mountain biking trails Lake Powhatan has to offer.  We are happy to say that after leaving Lake Powhatan we still have another week plus in the area and are looking forward to exploring more of the Western North Carolina mountains!
